Logitech Media Keys and iTunes 10.5 working again

Thursday, December 1st, 2011 | Business | 4 Comments

LogitechThree months ago, I posted an article on how to get your Logitech keyboard’s media keys to work with iTunes 10.4.

The fix has worked since I posted the article … until upgrading to iTunes 10.5.

The Fix

If your keyboard isn’t working, you have to reverse the steps, so you should:

  1. Open C:\Program Files\Logitech\SetPointP\players.ini
  2. Find the line under the [Players] section that starts with iTunes
  3. Your current line should look something like (if you modified it):
    iTunes=wac,iTunes.exe,ITWindow,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,0,1,iTunes
  4. You want to replace it with the following (just change the highlighted text):
    iTunes=wac,iTunes.exe,iTunes,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,0,1,iTunes
  5. Save players.ini
  6. Restart SetPoint (if it’s in your taskbar, you can right click the icon and click exit.. then launch “SetPoint.exe” in the same directory you found players.ini in)
Thanks to “The Joe” for commenting this fix on my previous post.

Logitech Performance Mouse MX – Excellent Customer Service

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011 | Business | 2 Comments

This mouse review starts off with a problem.  I’ve had the mouse for almost a year now, and started experiencing problems dragging files.  I’d drag files from one folder to another, only to have them stop dragging halfway there.  Frequently this resulted in some very annoying mistakes (like accidentally copying a folder in DropBox onto itself).

I expected some type of virus or trojan, so I ran every anti virus imaginable (just short of reformatting).  I found nothing.

Finally I decided to test out my mouse, and bingo!  If I switched to an older one of my mice, I had no problems dragging and dropping.  I tried my “broken” mouse on another computer, and experienced the same problem.  Troubleshooting 101.

iTunes 10.4.1 and Logitech Media Keys Fixed!

Thursday, September 8th, 2011 | Business | 62 Comments

A post I wrote a few weeks ago with the launch of iTunes 10.4.1 identified that my Logitech keyboard (using SetPoint software) media keys stopped working once I updated to iTunes 10.4.1.

Originally I thought it would fix the issue, then it didn’t.  In the past few days I found they would work again if certain software was open, but only if Set Point was disabled.

Thanks to one commenter, BrianE, we have a confirmed solution on the Apple discussion boards:

iTunes 10.4.1 Released: Fixes Keyboard Issues

Monday, August 22nd, 2011 | Business | 7 Comments

You can download iTunes 10.4.1 here.

Fixes include:

  • Fixing media keys on some keyboards (my Logitech keyboard finally works again, it broke in 10.4 — life has been hell)
  • Issues with artwork on songs and videos
  • Problems with iTunes upon Mac resuming from sleep
  • VoiceOver support issues
  • iTunes becoming unresponsive during an HD movie purchase

I went nuts trying to get my keyboard to work.  I change songs dozens of times a day, and don’t want to alt tab out of the code I’m working on… I want to hit my keyboard media keys.
