Help: Wi-Fi broke on iOS 6 install

Thursday, September 20th, 2012 | Business | 1 Comment

iOS 6I’m hearing reports that WiFi is breaking on iOS 6 updated phones.

The best thing you can do is:

  1. Forget WiFi Network: Settings->Wifi->(select your network)->Forget This Network
  2. Restart your iOS device (iPhone, iPad, iPod, etc)
  3. Log back on your Wi-Fi network

Some people are reporting this is due to a proxy being assigned to your WiFi (it works but you can’t browser in Safari).

Please let me know if this helps, and if not, what does!

Help: iOS 6 Upgrade / Update Frozen!

Thursday, September 20th, 2012 | Business | 1 Comment

iOS 6Yesterday I was installing the iOS 6 firmware on my iPad and iPhone.  My iPhone 4 (which was installed via iTunes on USB) installed without a problem.

My iPad was another story.  I tried the OTA (over the air) update, and it froze with the Apple logo and the progress bar (empty).

I waited an hour with nothing changing.

Finally I reset it:

  1. Unplug the iPad
  2. Hold the Home and Power buttons for a few seconds (it’ll turn black when it resets of course)

It came back, finished the update, and was ready to use a few minutes later.

iOS 6 Lost Contacts

Wednesday, September 19th, 2012 | Business | 84 Comments

iOS 6I started seeing some people visiting my site asking about iOS 6 lost contacts issues.

You should check out our extensive post on lost contacts in iOS 5.  All the same approaches still apply in iOS 6 (if you let me know if it helped, I’ll mark iOS 6 next to entries that help iOS 6 users).

  3. Switch from “Back up iCloud” to “Back up to Computer
  4. Go to info tab, at the bottom (in advanced settings) “Replace info on this iPhone
  5. Click on Contacts
  6. Sync!

Thanks TamTam!

iOS 6 Released, How to Upgrade your iPhone/iPad/iPod

Wednesday, September 19th, 2012 | Business | 1 Comment

iOS 6Apple has just officially released iOS 6.  The download just started for me!

iOS 6 is compatible with the following devices:

  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 4S
  • iPhone 5
  • iPod Touch (4th gen)
  • iPod Touch (5th gen)
  • iPad 2
  • The new iPad (I still hate that name)

To install the new iOS 6 you just follow these steps (you need iTunes 10.7 for this, to upgrade read after the iOS instructions):

  1. Connect your device via USB to your computer (at this point it may prompt you for an upgrade, go for it)
  2. Open iTunes (if it doesn’t open already)
  3. Click on your device below “devices
  4. Click on the “Summary” tab up top
  5. Click on “Check for Update
  6. Enjoy!
Alternatively you can do so without a computer:
  1. On your iOS device
  2. Settings
  3. General
  4. Software Update

If you don’t get the update, you probably still have an earlier version of iTunes.  Only iTunes 10.7 supports the new iOS 6.

Help: After iOS 5 Upgrade Lost my Contacts

Thursday, October 13th, 2011 | Business | 443 Comments

iOS 5I’ve seen a huge spike in traffic on my site searching for iOS lost contacts.  We now have 6 different solutions to restore your contacts.

Thought I’d post something specifically regarding iOS 5, and some solutions that are out there.  Personally I had no problems upgrading, and think losing contacts may just be because the initial “sync” hasn’t gone through yet (remember an iOS upgrade resets your phone to base iOS 5, then imports your information after).
