Apple iOS 4: My Review
Everyone has an iOS 4 review, or an iPhone 4 review, why shouldn’t I?
Apple iOS 4 Issues relate to Google Apps, Gmail Exchange
According to ZDNet, the problems we are seeing specifically deal with Google Apps (or the use of Google as an exchange server). This is true for me, and I have been noticing additional problems checking email via Exchange on my iPhone as well.
Help: I upgraded to iOS 4 and lost my contacts!
I just upgraded my iPhone 3GS to iOS 4 (iPhone OS 4) and lost all my contacts. Initially they were there and all was well, but then they all disappeared.
I even had to enter my voicemail PIN for the first time in years (I have never done this since first setting up my original iPhone years ago).
The fix? I’m not sure
iOS 4 Scheduled to Release Today
The new Apple mobile operating system, iOS 4, is supposed to be released today. Historically Apple makes their moves at 1pm eastern (10am pacific). I wouldn’t be surprised to hear someone finds the link to iOS4 a bit early today.
As soon as it becomes available, I will let everyone know!
AT&T Suspended iPhone 4 Pre-orders!
Wow – too much demand. I’m sure AT&T thought it would be popular, but did they underestimate it? I wonder what this means for Apple? Is the demand that much higher than expected? Does Apple just want me to write that, and is this just a marketing ploy?
From the WSJ news alert:
AT&T stopped taking advance orders for Apple’s iPhone 4 just one day after orders started, citing inventory issues and unexpectedly high demand. The carrier is suspending the orders “in order to fulfill the orders we’ve already received,” it said in a statement.
The suspension comes a day after a crush of traffic paralyzed AT&T and Apple’s websites on the first day of pre-orders, leaving many unable to reserve the new iPhone ahead of time while some customers inadvertently ended up on others’ account pages.
AT&T iPhone: How to fix dropped calls!
Until about two weeks ago I was dropping calls every day. After trying this fix, I haven’t had a dropped call since.
I don’t know if it’s a problem with my iPhone 3GS, or AT&T — but I know the fix works.
Here’s the fix… on your iPhone do the following:
- Settings
- General
- Network
- Turn “Enable 3G’ to OFF
That’s right. With 3G disabled, I haven’t had a dropped call. With it enabled, I drop a call on a daily basis (if not more).
Sad it’s come to disabling 3G to be able to have a conversation on my iPhone.
Now every day at about 8am I turn my 3G off (I’m on wifi anyway) and turn it back on when I leave the house later on around 5 or 6.
Web Developers: How to develop for iPhone / iPad / iPod Mobile Safari
In short, don’t. It’s an uphill fight.
There are a few obstacles in developing for the iPhone / iPad I thought I’d post while it was on my mind:
- How can I test my “mobile” site?
- How can I see errors on my iPhone?
- Why is the iPad and iPhone different?
Basically Apple has decided to make life difficult for web developers. This was ideally done to improve the user experience on their mobile platforms, but I don’t think it was fully thought out.
