iTunes 10.4.1 Released: Fixes Keyboard Issues

Monday, August 22nd, 2011 | Business | 7 Comments

You can download iTunes 10.4.1 here.

Fixes include:

  • Fixing media keys on some keyboards (my Logitech keyboard finally works again, it broke in 10.4 — life has been hell)
  • Issues with artwork on songs and videos
  • Problems with iTunes upon Mac resuming from sleep
  • VoiceOver support issues
  • iTunes becoming unresponsive during an HD movie purchase

I went nuts trying to get my keyboard to work.  I change songs dozens of times a day, and don’t want to alt tab out of the code I’m working on… I want to hit my keyboard media keys.

Roger McNamee: Speech on future of the web, and high tech

Monday, July 25th, 2011 | Business | No Comments

I’m usually not a fan of the opinions of investors, but I think Roger McNamee, of Elevation Partners, hits on quite  few good points.  Business Insider has some good bullets from the video, but watch the video:

Some ideas I agree with/find intersting in the video include:

  • Shift in search technology requirements
  • The greater focus on HTML5
  • Why indexed search is becoming less important
  • Social Media startups are useless, they should be just assumed functionality by now
  • Microsoft has lost it’s control over internet connected devices
I think this is a must see for anyone involved in the web.

New Apple TV Pictures Leaked?

Thursday, March 31st, 2011 | Business | No Comments

I’m not lending any credibility to these pictures, for all I know they’re just doctored up — but everything happening recently has been leading to this.

I saw them at amnesiablog.com.

Check them out:

Apple Releases iOS 4.3, Safari 5.0.4

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011 | Business | 3 Comments

Apple released iOS 4.3 today (except for Verizon iPhone users … grr)

Updates include:

  • Personal Hotspot
  • iTunes Home Sharing
  • Airplay Updates (more interoperability between devices)
  • Faster Safari (and also released a 5.0.4 for desktop users) – featuring the Apple Nitro Javascript engine — some results are up to 50% faster!
  • HD Video out with the Apple adapter
  • Few tweaks to settings

You can get it now, if you don’t have Verizon.  Guess I can’t ever be on the winning side of Apple.

I’m hoping the delay for 4.3 on Verizon iPhone isn’t too long — but no official word on that yet.

Also with the updates was an update for Apple TV today that aded some content as part of it’s iOS 4.3 update.

iPad 2, iOS 4.3, and new Apps – review of the Apple iPad 2 event

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011 | Business | No Comments

Steve Jobs managed to present for about a half hour, and came on and off stage after that.  It seemed like he was auditioning everyone, but still wanted to demo the iPad 2 himself.  At least we get to see the big product announcement before “1:55” in the announcement.

Lots of interesting things, most of which was predicted.

First the iPad 2 announcement:

  • Two Cameras
  • Faster – Featuring the A5 processor, which will have 2x the CPU power of the iPad, and 9x the graphics power of the iPad.
  • Lighter – down to 1.3 pounds from 1.5
  • Thinner – down to just 8.8mm thick, that’s thinner than an iPhone 4
  • HDMI out – up to 1080p
  • Gyroscope that the iPhone and iPod now have
  • Same Prices as before (I had hoped they would lower slightly, but they are already cheaper than the competition)
  • Will be available in both Black and White (upon release, no delays)
  • Will be in both AT&T and Verizon 3G models
  • 10 hour battery life (all the new toys, same battery life)
  • NO improved display
  • An interesting cover, which serves as a cleaner, stand, and a flap to protect the screen
  • Release date is March 11th (better get it out soon, while the iPad 3 is almost done)
  • Supports FaceTime

Also announced was the iOS 4.3:

Now Apple is getting into the App arena, and moving way beyond Poker:

  • Photo Booth – a photo manipulation app, seems ok
  • iMovie – Serious upgrades here, very impressive (social integration, great editing tools, only a few bucks)
  • Garage Band – Amazing that this can be done on such a mobile device

That’s it.  I’m excited, and would love to grab an iPad (and also want a new AppleTV to take advantage of the AirPlay functionality).

Seems in the coverage a term is being coined nowadays, called “post-PC”.  We saw it on mobile phones that can double as full computers, and now on tablets that have processing power to behave like a desktop.

Apple’s iPad 2 Announcement @ 1:00 pm Eastern

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011 | Business | No Comments

You can follow my favorite live coverage at Engadget.

We know they are announcing the iPad 2, the question is — exactly what does that mean?

Personally I’m expecting a minor upgrade including:

  • Internal Camera
  • Faster Processor
  • More Storage
  • Possibly lower price points?
  • Verizon compatible “3G” iPad?

Other rumors include:

  • A new Social iOS app launch
  • Possibly focusing on the release of “The Da Vinci Code” and Random House appearing as iBooks
  • Mobile Me changes (we know there will be changes, just not sure if it’s announced today, and/or what they will be — maybe this is the new iOS Social app?)

Verizon iPhone – To be announced 1/11/11?

Thursday, January 6th, 2011 | Business | 1 Comment

According to an article on CNET,  When will Apple announce a Verizon iPhone, rumors are circulating at CES that Apple is holding a press event on 1/11/11.

The article also says Apple is limiting vacation and time off in Apple stores for January and February.

All signs point to FINALLY!

Apple Releases iOS 4.2

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010 | Business | No Comments

I’m a few hours behind the times, but it was released today.

Some features include:

  • AirPlay
  • Find My iPhone
  • AirPrint
  • Safari “Find in Page”
  • iPad now supports iOS features that were available on iPhone (all platforms have same functionality now)

I’m excited about AirPrint (yes, I know, I am).  I had heard it was only compatible right now with limited devices.  This limitation was placed by Apple, and is not a limitation of the technology.  Currently it only allows printing to specific HP printers.  There are some alternate solutions for other devices, but I’d give Apple a few months and we should have a larger set of potential printers.

This applies to AppleTV, iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch devices.
