The food was wonderful, our waitress was excellent, the view of the Newport Harbar at sunset was beautiful, but management killed our evening.
Dining at Fluke Wine, Bar & Kitchen, a local Newport restaurant, proved to be too good to be true. We had heard good things about the restaurant. Despite being there for drinks a few times, we had never actually had a meal there.
At the end of our meal, the manager came over to tell us we were taking too long and had to leave. We didn’t think he even talked to the waitress, as we didn’t even have the check yet! Why would you make a table feel bad, when they haven’t even been given the opportunity to leave when ‘hinted’ by a check being delivered.
We had been at the restaurant for 2.5 hours by then, but we had ordered 2 rounds of appetizers (cheese plate, followed by some salad and fish balls), an entree, and only coffee after dinner. It took 2.5 hours not because we were on our 4th round of after dinner drinks, but because the food took it’s time. We were a healthy table (with a healthy bill!).
What makes it worse is that when he told this to us we were stunned, so didn’t know what to say. After realizing how we weren’t in the wrong here, we asked the waitress to talk to the manager. He came over, we told him that it felt rude that he told us to leave, especially when we didn’t even have the check. He was defensive, told us how it was his best option. He humored listening to us, told us we were wrong, and walked away shaking his head.
… the service was exeptionnally awful. We were asked to leave after our coffee was served. We were not even able to finish a bottle of wine after spending a considerable amount of money on dinner. Owner was rude …
… One of the owners told my 11 yr old daughter to go back to the table or leave when she got up to go to the bathroom. When I went to speak with her about this I was told it was time for me to leave as well. We spent over $800.00 including food and wine.
The waitress’ excellent service was overshadowed by how hot it was (air conditioning didn’t work well enough) and how discourteous the managers were. There are better options available.

Awful management and rude service. In all my years of a diner, I had never been so insulted and rushed. They have poor planning when it comes to reservations and service.
I included all of these reviews, because I feel so bad about saying that you shouldn’t dine there. The food was quite good, and our waitress was superb. Wouldn’t management and/or the owners be watching for reviews like this? Don’t you read?
At the same time, it’s not the customer’s job to manage the reservations. The restaurant sets the time limits, and also has to account for slow tables. Maybe the restaurant has too many tables allocated to reservations?
Altogether will will not be going back after this bad experience. Management’s actions infuriated us to the point where we had to cool down after we left, we were so frustrated.
