iTunes 10.4.1 and Logitech Media Keys Fixed!

Thursday, September 8th, 2011 | Business | by

A post I wrote a few weeks ago with the launch of iTunes 10.4.1 identified that my Logitech keyboard (using SetPoint software) media keys stopped working once I updated to iTunes 10.4.1.

Originally I thought it would fix the issue, then it didn’t.  In the past few days I found they would work again if certain software was open, but only if Set Point was disabled.

Thanks to one commenter, BrianE, we have a confirmed solution on the Apple discussion boards:

The Fix

I just tried this and it worked, took an entire minute to do (if you have iTunes 10.5, check the link below):

  1. Open C:\Program Files\Logitech\SetPointP\players.ini
  2. Find the line under the [Players] section that starts with iTunes
  3. Your current line should look something like:
    iTunes=wac,iTunes.exe,iTunes,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,0,1,iTunes
  4. You want to replace it with the following (just change the highlighted text):
    iTunes=wac,iTunes.exe,ITWindow,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,0,1,iTunes
  5. Save players.ini
  6. Restart SetPoint (if it’s in your taskbar, you can right click the icon and click exit.. then launch “SetPoint.exe” in the same directory you found players.ini in)

Life is better now!  Not only do my keys work, but that overlay tells me when I hit the button.

Please let me know if this does or doesn’t work for you.

UPDATE 12/1/2011

Looks like Logitech and Apple didn’t communicate well with one another, or Apple just goofed 10.4, but the new iTunes 10.5 requires the opposite of this fix.

You can check out my updated post on getting your Logitech keyboard media keys to work with iTunes 10.5.

followed the steps and no change in my use. I even copy pasted your line just in case I mistyped something the first and second try!

Thanks for trying though!

What are your various software versions? I’d love to at least list on here which versions it doesn’t work for. Also, did you try to reboot after doing all of that?

That may be the issue. I am running iTunes 10.4.1.10

Hmm, last I checked it worked great for iTunes 10.4.1. I’m not 100% sure as I’m running a beta version myself. Sorry it didn’t help.

This fix didn’t work for me either, altho the line you have entered above is different then the one i have originally (using itunes 10.4.1.10)

original line: iTunes=wac,xxx,xxx,1,0
This line you can find twice in the file, under Players.seek and players.rewind.

After replacing it with yours I still don’t have a difference, it is not working when the window is focused, neither when it is unfocused.

The Logitech G-series does not use SetPoint so it would not work. I guess we are stuck until Apple decides to fix iTunes up.

September 21, 2011

I had put earlier that it worked for me. However something seems to have overwritten the changes I made regarding ‘ITWindow’ – the media keys had stopped working again until I changed ‘ITWindow’ in players.ini and restarted Setpoint again. It’s working again now, but looks like I may have to do this regularly from now on :/

The fix works at least and for that I am grateful!!!

For anyone that is having issues with Logitech G Keys this is the ultimate FIX.

Will work for both keyboard and headsets that utilize the G Keys

My setup

Windows 7 64 Bit

iTunes 10.4.1.10 (latest)

Logitech G930 (wireless headset w/ G Keys)

Go this this link and download both files at the bottom.

http://andy.hillhome.org/blog/code/ituneskeys/

On your desktop (Windows Button + D)

Create a folder name it “Logitech GKEYS iTunes”

Download both of the links at http://andy.hillhome.org/blog/code/ituneskeys/

Extract all files from both of the downloads into the new folder you created. “Logitech GKEYS iTunes”

Run iTunesKeys.exe

Should now work!

I have tried this without success, but I don’t have a G930. Please let me know if anyone tries this “iTuneskeys” fix, and if it fixes anything. Again, I don’t recommend this fix only because it hasn’t worked for me, but feel free to try it out.

You sir are an absolute legend!

When I first tried this and closed SetPoint in the task bar, I still had iTunes running and it didn’t work.

However, I did the following and it is now working properly:

1) Closed iTunes first
2) Then closed SetPoint in the Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del)
3) Launched SetPoint
4) Launched iTunes
5) Voila!

Thanks again.

Works for iTunes 10.5 as well.

So looks like Apple changed the name of the window (or frame, or something) and Logitech hasn’t caught on yet.

Thanks for finding this!

I have no idea. I only have the non LCD screen keyboard. I’d try it? Make sure backup all the files you changes first, in case it doesn’t apply.

Worked brilliantly, now they’ve updated to version 10.5.1.42 it stopped working again, and had to reset the file back to the previous settings.

If you recently updated your iTunes to version 10.5.1.42, revert the changes to fix it.

Now that I’ve updated to itunes 10.5.1.42, I had to set the line back to ITunes instead of ITWindows to get the keyboard to work. Thanks again.

Follow up to my previous post:

I upgraded iTunes to version 10.5.1.42 and this fixed stopped working. I changed the players.ini file back to “iTunes” instead of “ITWindow” and now it works.
