If you get the error message:
The file or Directory is corrupted and unreadable.
… and you’re on Windows 7, take a deep sigh.
I have a solution!
There is a problem with the way MoveFileEx() handles replacing files. If used multiple times in a short period of time, it will fail. Thanks Microsoft.
You can download a patch:
- KB982927 – You receive an error message that states the file system is broken in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2
Keep in mind, the patch WORKS for Windows 7 (it did for me).
Unfortunately Microsoft’s page is a little tricky to navigate. If you can’t find the file, look at the top of the page for a link “Hotfix Download Available”. It’s at the top just under the page title. Annoying isn’t it?
Anyway, ultimately you will end up at the real page to download the patch, at the hotfix request page.
I selected the “x64” option, as I’m running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
Keep in mind this patch is going to be released in SP1, but isn’t fully tested. So install at your own risk.
