Safari 5 Released for Mac and PC

Apple issued a press release following the WWDC announcing Safari 5:

SAN FRANCISCO—June 7, 2010—Apple® today released Safari® 5, the latest version of the world’s fastest and most innovative web browser, featuring the new Safari Reader for reading articles on the web without distraction, a 30 percent performance increase over Safari 4,* and the ability to choose Google, Yahoo! or Bing as the search service powering Safari’s search field.

It’s surprising this wasn’t focused on at least a little yesterday.  I thought they may mention it.  It does fit in with the push for HTML5.

The new browser will feature:

  • Additional HTML 5 features including: Geolocation, sectioning elements (yay), draggable attribute, Ruby, AJAX History, Websocket, form validation and more
  • Faster Nitro Javascript engine
  • Safari Reader (maybe an offshoot of the iBook features?)
  • Extensions support (another biggie)

You can download Safari 5 free, right now.

Hmm i’m not prepared to use Safari even now. I’ll stick to Firefox.
