Microsoft Courier: Officially Cancelled

Thursday, April 29th, 2010 | Business | by

The folding, touchscreen / stylus operated dual tablet concept, as cool as it is, is cancelled.

The Microsoft Courier was one of the most promising new technologies to make it out of Redmond.

For the past few months, occasionally I would hear a die hard Apple fan say, “I can’t wait to see that Microsoft notebook concept”.

Take a look at a video of it, in memoriam:

Courier? Never heard of it. What is it with M$ and their inability to make interesting technology? I think they should stick with software (not that I use it anyhow). I mean, the Zune… What a terrible name. And they made it BROWN! lol. Brown. The company who is portrayed as a goofy middle-aged aged man in a brown suit using software that runs on non-descript brown boxes in a boring brown office environment, decided that people would buy a brown, yes brown, mp3 player. Wow. Just wow. Then they name their “iPad killer” after one of THE most boring typefaces known to man.

Well, at least they didn’t call it the Comic Sans Pad.

I’m not quite sure. Sometimes it seems like they have cool internal ideas, that just never seem to make it out in to the real world. Those tabletop computers seemed pretty cool, and I’ve only heard them deployed in a few test sites (in vegas?). Maybe Microsoft is just testing their software to see how cool it could be, but never will?

The courier looks pretty cool, sort of disappointed that they didn’t take it to the market. I guess they figure that they can’t compete with the Ipad.

Wow, this was one of the newer devices I wanted to own. I watched that video at least five times.
