How can I sell my music on iTunes or Amazon MP3?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010 | Business, Tutorials | by

A reader just asked me:

I have a company that does films and music, I wanna know how i can use itunes to sell my products do i need to contact itunes directly or what can I do?  What are the steps?

Fortunately the answer is easy — you can use CD Baby.  If there are other (better?) ways to list your music on iTunes — please post comments below.

I haven’t used CD Baby myself, but have seen it used by some artists around Boston.  I haven’t heard anything bad about them (yet).

For those “non artists” out there, they also have a nice affiliate program.  So browse them albums and post links to the artists you like.  If you find some, let me know.

UPDATE 2010-03-30: For the video part, I’m not equipped to answer that.  I think www.tunecore.com will let you distribute songs AND movies, but have not heard any feedback on the quality of their services.

If your in a band and want to get your music onto Spotify then check out RouteNote (http://routenote.com). They are already the leaders in the UK for digital music distribution.

Hi Sean,
Thanks for your sharing and tips!
May I ask, how can i setup a blog or site that iTunes would approve? I’m thinking of selling iTunes but not sure what contents is suitable and do you have some good example sites that you can think of?

Much appreciated!
Daniel

I don’t understand the actual question. iTunes doesn’t approve sites, they approve content. There’s a way to get content into iTunes, if that is what you are asking for.
