Google Buzz: Turn off the Buzz
A few days ago Google buzz launched. This included automatically starting up Google buzz in your Gmail account, and automatically setting your followers.
While nice of Google (and scary), automatically assuming Gmail users would want Google buzz to share who you are following with your followers — was a poor assumption.
As with Facebook, I prefer to approve each person one by one. That way I know who is following me.
I’m on the fence about Google buzz for now. I haven’t seen all the functionality. Some of the map integration looks nice, as do some of the things Google has gotten good at, presenting information you will want to see. I just haven’t made decision and don’t want it forced upon me.
How to Turn Off Google Buzz
It’s easy.
- Log into your Gmail account (this has not been enabled for any of my Google hosted domains yet)
- Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page (any page in gmail, I just did it with my Inbox)
- Look for “turn off buzz” on the 2nd to last line in the footer (past the bottom of the page)
- Click it
Easy right?
Now we can take a look at Google buzz, and what it has to offer — and make the decision ourselves.
