Apple: iTunes won’t transfer HD tv show to my iPhone 3GS

First of all, I’m on tech support with Apple and couldn’t say better things about their tech support staff.  They are intelligent, helpful, polite — and very easy to understand and work with.

Just today, before going to the gym (you can tell I haven’t done this in a while) — I went to sync season 3 of Heroes (very good show) to my iPhone to entertain me while on the treadmill.  It doesn’t work.

I’m good at troubleshooting, but can’t get it to work.  I can swear this was supposed to work.

After sitting on the phone for a while, we realize its because the show is in HD.  I remembered that HD shows were supposed to work, but it makes sense why they aren’t transferring.  So I take a look at the iTunes page and I see this:

I hope Apple doesn’t sneak around this one.  I’d hate to spend $70 buying a season in HD to only be able to watch it on my Apple TV and computer.  Isn’t that why we have iTunes, a single point for all of our media?

UPDATE – 5:40 PM

I’m being told that the SD version should have downloaded with the HD version, and that there should never be any problems.  Hopefully no one accepts “it doensn’t include the SD version” ever again.  I almost said “ok” and would have had to download SD versions for my iPhone.  I can’t believe the attention Customer Support is giving me over 2 little TV Shows.  They are truly getting down to the bottom of the issue.  Having that screenshot helped the Customer Support agent fight the case.

FINAL RESOLUTION

Apple sent the download to me again, and both versions downloaded.  According to Apple the policy is true, and all HD tv shows SHOULD come with an SD version that is transferred to the iPhone.
